Simplicity
In life, love, and business - less is always more.
When we are watching our favorite TV series or an award-winning film, we want nothing more than suspense, a good plot-twist, the “will they, won’t they '' friendship-to-relationship storyline, or watching an underdog succeed in the end. We crave the drama, the unknown, the uncertainty. Unfortunately, some of us are practicing this behavior and rehearsing these storylines in our own lives and that’s not a good thing. Living a life with this level of anxiety is exhausting, draining, ineffective, stressful, and downright unhealthy. Thankfully, there is another pathway to simplicity.
I created these three axioms to practice simplicity in my life and work: Know Thyself: be comfortable in your identity, be clear about your core values, and establish standards and boundaries for how you treat others and the treatment you accept from others. Grow Thyself: have an appetite for learning, be curious about the future, stay dissatisfied with the status quo, find your vocation, be adaptable and flexible, stay ready, and build your confidence. Throw Thyself: take risks, bet on yourself, have a bias for action, inspire others, speak unarguably, accept nothing less than excellence, believe that not trying is scarier and more damaging than trying, enjoy winning with and for others, and have the courage to leave when its no longer working. When we embrace simplicity, we make better decisions, we’re more optimistic, we accomplish more goals, we listen more, we make deeper connections, we’re healthier, we experience more freedom and choice, we focus more on the things we can control and influence, we’re less influenced by societal pressures, and we protect our most important resource - time. Choose today to make life, love, and work less complicated, less dramatic, and less uncertain. The life you want and the happiness you desire are within reach, but we must do our part to declutter the pathway. Choose simplicity to discover how less can indeed lead to more.
